What is an EMT?
An EMT is an Emergency Medical Technician. These are the first responders who's duty it is to assess, stabilize and transport patients in a medical emergency. Before applying to the program, please learn everything you can about EMT's (one way to do this is to follow the the links under "EMT Basics").
How much will this training cost me?
There is no cost for the training as it is paid for by a grant from the Eleanor Foundation. There is however, a substantial commitment of time and energy required to successfully complete the course.
What is ICNC?
ICNC, or the Industrial Council of Nearwest Chicago, is a nonprofit organization representing the companies in the Kinzie Corridor. ICNC also owns and operates a 410,000 sq. ft. incubator facility with over 100 small companies.
Who qualifies for this program?
To qualify you must be a woman who is either working or has worked in the recent past. You must live in the City of Chicago and earn less than $30,000 per year. The program is geared to woman who want to work hard to advance in their careers and become more economically secure.
If I meet the qualifications, does that mean I'm accepted?
Not necessarily. We have a limited number of spaces available and are looking for those women who are most likely to successfully complete the program and take full advantage of the training and career opportunity.
When and where are classes being held?
Classes are at ICNC, 2010 W. Fulton, every Saturday from 9 am til 4 pm. Pre-classes begin Saturday March 6th, 2010 and continue throughout October. .
How much will I earn after I get hired as an EMT?
Earnings will vary depending on what type of position you accept. An estimate from a large ambulance company hiring EMTs, is $30,000 for the first year for a 45 hour week. We encourage our EMT graduates to continue their education in the health care field. For example, EMT experience is required to become a Paramedic, who after a year of training, can earn a substantially higher income.
Will ICNC find me a job as an EMT.
ICNC has a successful placement program and will assist in finding you a placement. While we do not guarantee every every graduate a job, there is a great demand for EMT's at the present time.
